Anna Netrebko in Traviata - Staatsoper Wien - 04.05.2009

......Anna... Violeta... Anna...


......This beautiful story begun early in the morning on May 4th when I went to the opera and there was no pink paper on the bilboard. Everything was all right. I came back in time for the show, at about 6:30pm. There were many people outside and inside the opera selling tickets. For me it was very difficult to get the ticket. But thanks to Carlos who suggested to ask a certain company, I got the tickets.
......It's not my first time at Staatsoper but it impresses me every time. Now I had seats in the gallery. So I could admire the beauty of the theatre better than last time when I had seats on the parkette. This is how a perfect opera house should look like. And I say this because I saw other "modern" opera houses.
......I had very good seats, with perfect visibility. Gallery, a little bit to the right.

......I enjoyed every second of the performance. From the first notes of the ouverture to the last ones, after Violeta's death. It's the best Traviata I've seen live so far. The orchestra, the sets, the choir, the costumes, everything. It was a "classical" Traviata. I think it's the perfect way. The only modern Traviata that I liked was the one in Salzburg, with Anna and Rolando.

......After the show I got back to the hotel and wrote what follows. My thoughts. It's in Romanian. Please use Google Translate on the first page to understand. I thought it's better to leave it as it is.

......Povestea frumoasa a inceput mai de dimineata, cand am trecut pe la opera si nu am gasit niciun fluturas roz. Totul era in regula. M-am intors la timp pentru spectacol pe la 6 jumate. Erau destule personae afara si inauntru care vindeau bilete. La ei nu e pe sub mana ca la noi. La vedere. Dar nu a fost cazul. E totusi bine de stiut.
......Nu e prima data cand intru in opera din Viena. Dar ma impresioneaza de fiecare data. Pana acum am stat in sectorul de jos. Acum am stat la galerie. Asa ca am admirat interiorul de jos pana sus. Totul este foarte bine intretinut. Asa cum treuie sa arate o opera. Spun asta pentru ca am vazut si alte tipuri de opere. O prefer pe aceasta.
......Nu stiam exact unde sunt locurile. Dar au fost foarte bune. Galeria la ei e balconul de la ONB. Doar ca putin mai sus. Dar nu exagerat. Deci, galerie, un pic spre partea dreapta. Vedere perfecta la scena.
......Am savutrat fiecare secunda. De la primele note ale uverturii pana la ultimele acorduri, dupa moartea Violetei. De departe cea mai frumoasa traviata pe care am vazut-o live. De la orchestra, decoruri, costume, cor, totul. Solistii sunt un capitol separat.
......A fost o Traviata cu decoruri clasice. Asa cum cred ca ar trebui sa fie toate. Singura montare moderna care mi-a placut a fost cea de la Salzburg. In rest, mai bine asa cum a gandit-o Verdi. De cele mai multe ori pentru a avea perspectiva pe scena, aceasta este inclinata. Urca de la public spre partea din spate. De data asta a fost altfel. Nu scena a urcat ci partea de sus a decorului cobora din fata spre in spate. Asa se obtine adancimea. In special cand e vorba de camere. Mi s-a parut interesant.
......Orchestra ca la carte. Maestro Armiliato face naveta intre Berlin si Viena. Cate 3 spectacole in fiecare oras, azi Berlin, maine Viena, iar Berlin.. si tot asa. Si numai cu Traviata. Cred ca o viseaza, nota cu nota. Dar ii iese de minune. E foarte important sa fie bun dirijorul. Se poate umbla la amanunte.
Si acum solistii.

......Am ascultat-o pe Anna in multe inregistrari. Am vazut si mare parte din operele scoase pe DVD sau luate din diverse locuri. Dar nimic nu se compara cu a o vedea pe scena. E tot timpul stapana pe situatie, o voce placuta manuita cu talent. Prea multe comentarii nu-si au rostul. Am avut din nou sentimentul pe care l-am avut cand m-am uitat la traviata de la Salzburg. Nu ea urmareste orchestra ci exact invers. Dirijorul are grija ca orchestra sa intre cand vrea solistul. De multe ori anna era cu spatele. Si totusi, la fix cu orchestra. A ales ca mai multe pasaje sa le cante putin mai rar. Inclusiv momentul in care zice “folie, folie”. Si am auzit mai multe.. cum sa le spun.. note ajutatoare. Zabovea putin pe nota de jos pentru ca mai apoi sa atace la octava fara ezitare. Oricum a sunat foarte, foarte bine.

......Il ascult pentru prima data pe Joseph Calleja (se citeste Caleia. Am intrebat). Uimitor. Este un om bine facut, cam ca Vargas sau Beczala. Dar are o prezenta scenica extraordinara. E din peisaj. A fost partenerul potrivit pentru anna. A cucerit sala de la prima interventie.

......Baritonul, Vladimir Stoyanov, mi s-a parut ca se aude mai incet decat ceilalti. Dar si el a avut o voce frumoasa. Daca ar fi sa-l compar cu cel de la Berlin, iese clar in pierdere. Asa ca nu o sa-l compar. Cel de la Berlin a fost cel mai bun pe scena. Cel de la Viena a avut concurenta serioasa.

......Mi-a placut mult. Pentru ca am vazut-o pe Anna prima data pe scena, pentru ca toata lumea a cantat si au dat ce au avut mai bun, pentru ca dupa spectacol am reusit sa-I vad pe toti. A fost lume multa la backstage. Majoritatea in varsta. Dar si mai tineri. Artistii au iesit foarte repede. Primul a aparut dirijorul. De data asta am apucat sa-I spun doua vorbe. La Berlin nu astepta nimeni la backstage. Doar eu. Si mi s-a parut ciudat sa ma bag in seama. Acum a fost altceva. Apoi a venit Calleja. O fata deschisa, zambitoare. A semnat toate programele care i-au fost intinse. Dar nu s-a asezat la celebra masa. I-a lasat-o annei. Care a aparut la 5 minute dupa el. Este o femeie frumoasa si desi cred ca era obosita, s-a asezat direct la masa, fara sa astepte sa o roage lumea. Nici nu a incercat sa iasa din opera. Oricum nu ar fi putut trece. Asa ca a inceput sesiunea de autografe. Nu a vorbit prea mult. Si s-a asezat in asa fel incat era greu sa faci poze cu ea. Cativa s-au incumetat. Dar dupa privire nu i-a facut mare placere. Eu una sunt fericita ca am ascultat-o. Si abia astept sa o vad din nou.

......The conclusion is that I loved it. Loved Anna, Anna's voice, Calleja's voice and presence on stage, the ability of maestro Armiliato to conduct another red Ferrari. All of them are good and they know it.
......After the show I got backstage. Anna is beautiful. Not as talkative as other singers but still very enjoyable. She signed my Souvenirs booklet. I wish I could turn back time and listen to them again and again.

Calleja, Netrebko, Armiliato, Stoyanov - BRAVI!














Mr Calleja came out first. He didn't go to the table prepared for autographs. He left it to Anna. Just came out to us. Smiling and talking to each person that had something to tell him.
Maestro Armiliato is the soul of the opera. He has a sixth sense for sure. He's loved by everyone on and off stage. He took care that the artists come on stage several times, he encouraged them to do so. It was a great honor seeing him twice in 3 days.
And now, Anna. As I said, she doesn't talk too much. But it's ok. She's a strong presence, very calm and gentle. There were sooo many people waiting for her. Some of you might know, that room at the backstage is very small. I guess there were 20 people inside. Very crowded.






Nothing else to say. It is unforgetable. For sure I'll go see her again soon.

    Stiam ca e maltez. de altfel a spus si el in acea seara cand a stat de vorba cu lumea. Insa nu stiam ca este insurat cu doamna Lisnic. Trebuia sa fi incercat cateva cuvinte in romaneste. Cine stie.. poate chiar imi raspundea.
