George Enescu International Festival
(or how the most famous European orchestras and soloists come to Bucharest every 2 years)

......For every concert goer this is a real treat. You watch Mezzo or Arte. Listen to BBC3, Radio France or Radio Muzical. You hear about Orchestre de Paris, Europa Galante, Russian National Orchestra, Camerata Lysy, Zubin Mehta, Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Nelson Freire, Martha Argerich, Pincas Zucherman, Joshua Bell, Sarah Chang.... they are all big names. And they and many other gather to Bucharest, once in 2 years, to sing/conduct/perform for Romanians. Bucharest is proud to welcome them. The Palace Hall, Opera House and the Athenaeum are full every evening. People run from one place to another. 5pm - Athenaeum - 7:30pm - Palace Hall - 10pm - Athenaeum. Once or twice at the Opera. It's a rush. 3 weeks of the best music possible.

......I have a lot of memories from 2005 and 2007. In September 2009 the Festival starts again. Don't miss anything. The world's best are doing us a favour.

......I admire Mrs Argerich a lot. After a career of more than 30 years she's still in good shape, always giving the best of each score. In 2007 she came to Bucharest for the first time. And she didn't come alone. She also brought three of her best friends. The pianist Nelson Freire and the conductors Michel Plasson and Charles Dutoit. Martha and Nelson had one concert each at the Palace Hall and they also gave a recital at the Athaeneum. I talked to her. First time, at the Athenaeum I just said hello and congratulated her on the concert. The second time, at the Palace Hall, she was more relaxed. She recognized me and asked why i came again. I told her I wanted to see her off stage. how she talkes, smiles, how she thinks about the concert and audience. these people are so famous. But they still have a smile and a nice thought for their fans.
