Hyde Park-London-Fall 2009

...

London. Loved you, missed you, here I am again.
...
......The Wizz Air flight, besides the fact it was very early in the morning (6am) it was fine. Bucharest – Luton, 3 hours and 15 minutes. Then the transfer to the city. You can either buy the ticket only (for Easy Bus or Greenline) which can be cheaper (I paid 10 pounds for one way ride at 8am) or buy it from the driver. The prices depend on the time of the ride and on the distance. I chose to go to Victoria Station because I knew how to get to the hostel from there. But there are several stops, including Baker Street and Marble Arch. The ride takes about 1 hour, but because of the traffic mayinly on Baker Street and Oxford Street, it lasted about 2 hours. Then more or less one hour from Victoria Station to the hostel, in Russell Square, by subway.
......Generator Hostel is located 200m away from the underground station. I heard it’s huge. 800 beds. For financial reasons I booked a bed in a 8 female dorm. It’s ok, Large enough for 8 people, 4 bunk beds, shared facilities like in most of the hostels. It’s cleaner than I one I stayed in last time (Smart Russell Square). It’s 20 minutes walking to Trafalgar Square or Royal Opera House and 10 minutes away from British Museum.
......After I got to the hostel I had a good afternoon sleep. Without it I couldn’t have been able to go to the theatre in the evening. The event I was supposed to attend this evening was postponed so we had to find something else to do. I met my friend at the ROH’s box office entrance, had something to eat in a nice Italian restaurant nearby and then he said we should take a walk. Ok. I know places in London but I still can’t locate them properly. We went through Charring Cross Station towards the Jubilee Bridge. And all of a sudden… what do I see in front of me? On the building in front it was written with big letters. ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL (the place where that postponed event was supposed to take place.). Ohhhhhhhhhhh. Why? It took me several days to convince myself that I can deal with another cancellation, that I’ll listen to her again. And on this day, here I am, in front of Royal Festival Hall. Oh, well, at least now I know where it is.

.....The second day was dedicated to walking, having in mind that a great night was about to start. I walked on Oxford Street from one end to another. I was not that impressed. Everybody goes there for shopping, but as I’m not a fan of shopping, it was just another crowded street. I’ve seen these kind of streets in the cities I visited. There were so many people at noon there that I couldn’t help thinking of Times Square and Champs Elysee. Too many people at one place. But this Oxford Street has one point of interest for me. A HMV music store. Actually there are 2, very close to each other. I like this HMV more than other music shops because here there’s a special room dedicated to classical music. Inside they only play classical music and if you want you could spend there 2-3 hours. They have almost everything at reasonable prices. It’s so nice to have a place like this in te busy city of London.
......At the end of Oxford Street there’s Marble Arch and Hyde Park. It was not the best day for walking in the park, but as long I was already there, I entered. From that side of the park you can only see the huge field (that is used for concerts). After about 15 minutes of walking I got to the lake and to the nicest part of the park, the Rose Garden (very close to Hyde Park Corner underground). Even if it’s October, there were a lot of roses there, of all colors, from white to intense red.
