......This was the second weekend of midnight concerts. Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, startig at 10:30 pm. If last week there was a Haydn treat with Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and Christian Zacharias, this week it was the Austrian's turn to impress the audience.
......I only attended the first evening, for some good reasons. The performace was enjoyable, good sound, all together. In the end Mr Schiff said that the orchestra doesn't want to perform "more movements". They had already performed 12. So he took a cello and played. In this way we could appreciate him both as conductor and cello player.
...
......The conductor and cellist Heinrich Schiff has made a successful career for himself for over thirty years. He gave his debut in 1971 in Vienna and London after finishing his cello studies with Tobias Kühne and André Navarra. Since then he has performed with the world's famous orchestras and has appeared in major concert halls and at important festivals in Europe, Japan and the United States. He has worked with many leading conductors such as Abbado, Celibidache, Chailly, Sir Colin Davis, Dohnányi, Eschenbach, Gielen, Haitink, Harnoncourt, Jansons, Masur, Salonen, Sawallisch, Sinopoli, Tennstedt and Welser-Möst. He has recorded all the major works in the cello repertoire ranging from Vivaldi and Haydn to Lutoslawski and Zimmermann.
......In addition to his award-winning recordings of the Bach solo suites and the Shostakovich concertos, which gained the "Grand Prix du Disque", Heinrich Schiff has also recorded the Dvorak cello concerto with the Vienna Philharmonic under André Previn and the Schumann cello concerto with the Berlin Philharmonic under Bernard Haitink. His recording of the Brahms double concerto with violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann, conducted by Wolfgang Sawallisch received the "Deutscher Schallplattenpreis". In 2000, Heinrich Schiff and pianist Till Fellner, released Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano to huge critical acclaim.
......A CD of Duos together with Frank Peter Zimmermann will be released by ECM soon, as well as a recording of the cello concerto of Friedrich Cerha. Contemporary music plays an important part in his artistic work. He has collaborated with many composers such as Berio, Casken, Cerha, Gielen, Henze, Krenek, Lutoslawski, Penderecki, Pintscher, Rihm, Staud, Zender and Zykan. In 2005-06 Heinrich Schiff will perform the complete works for cello and piano by L. v. Beethoven together with Gerhard Oppitz in several European cities, as well as all Suites for cello solo by J. S. Bach. At the "Salzburger Festspiele" he will appear as Soloist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra together with Daniel Barenboim at the World Premiere of the Concerto for cello and orchestra by Johannes Maria Staud.
......For the past 20 years, Heinrich Schiff has dedicated half of his artistic activities to conducting. He has conducted leading orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philharmonia London, Dresden Staatskapelle, and Munich Philharmonic among many others. He has also held positions as Artistic Director or Guest Conductor with Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, Northern Sinfonia, Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, Bruckner Orchestra Linz and the Chamber Orchestra Vienna.
......Upcoming highlights include a Beethoven cycle with the Chamber Orchestra Vienna at the Konzerthaus Vienna, appearances as a conductor with the Orchestre de Paris and Rotterdam Philharmonic and his Residency at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf.
......Heinrich Schiff plays 'The Mara' (Stradivarius 1711) and 'The Sleeping Beauty' (Montagnana 1739). (festivalenescu.ro)

Sa vina in fiecare festival. Pana acum au fost cei mai buni in materie de muzica de camera. Nu cred ca se mai poate schimba ceva.
